About this Dumbarton Oaks Gardens

A haven in the city are the Dumbarton Oaks gardens. The famous landscape designer Beatrix Farrand and Mildred Bliss created the ten-acre garden, which has tiered gardens, views, orchards, and kitchen gardens. For over 30 years, Farrand and Bliss collaborated to create the garden according to their vision, which has several exquisite ornamental elements, such as benches, gates, finials, and statues.

A pre-purchased ticket is necessary for entry. At the entrance, no tickets are sold. A daily ticket entitles the bearer to admission between the hours of 2:00 and 5:30. At 6:00 p.m., the gardens shut.

The public cannot access the Gardens during internal Dumbarton Oaks activities on:

June 1st, Thursday, September 21st, Friday, September 22nd, and Saturday, September 23rd, Thursday, October 5th, Friday, October 6th, and Saturday, October 7th
What transpires if there is bad weather?

The Gardens are closed if bad weather creates hazardous circumstances. We publish closure announcements on our website and social media platforms.
