About An Evening with Annie Ernaux

Annie Ernaux is a magnificent character in French literature, held in high esteem by millions of readers. She has had a significant impact on many French authors, including Nicolas Mathieu and Edouard Louis.

Ernaux reimagined the memoir by entwining the currents of France’s political and cultural environment with the story of her own life. Like Beauvoir’s The Second Sex from the 1960s, her writing has “de-particularized women’s experiences” (and beyond). Annie Ernaux will be in New York City for the first time since Seven Stories Press began publishing her work in the United States to attend the New York Film Festival and show the film she made with her son, David Ernaux Briot, titled Les Années Super 8.

We are delighted to announce that on Monday, October 10 at 6 p.m., we will be joined by Annie Ernaux for a discussion of her work in its entirety, including her most recent book, Getting Lost (Seven Stories). The language of this event is English. You can get in for free if you RSVP.
