In 2022, on July 31st, Oakland’s waterfront will play host to BOCA DO RIO and its soulful and groovy brand of samba.
Boca do Rio is a Brazilian-American soulful-samba-funk explosion, fronted by singer/songwriter KEVIN WELCH and drummer ALEX CALATAYUD and hailing all the way back to the San Francisco Mission. Boca do Rio’s entrancing samba is the result of the blending of Brazilian and San Francisco Bay waters, music that grew out of the cadence of life and labour between the two continents.

After ten years of playing original music during the golden age of San Francisco’s live music scene, multi-layered band Boca do Rio has developed a sound that is fluid and edgy, adaptive and free on Sunset Sundays
The house and farm of Boca do Rio frontman KEVIN WELCH were destroyed in the June 28, 2022 wildfire that swept up the North San Juan mountain above the Yuba river in Grass Valley, California, thus this performance is being held as a BENEFIT CONCERT for him. The proceeds from this encouraging performance will go directly to support Kevin’s rebuilding efforts.

OAKLAND INTERFAITH GOSPEL CHOIR presents “Sweet Sounds of Gospel” on Sunday, August 14, 2022.
The Oakland International Gospel Choir (OIGC), a “treasured Bay Area institution”), won the “Best Gospel Choir” award in 2006 and the “Best Church Music” award in 2009 in the East Bay Express Reader’s Polls.
In 2013, Dr. Edwin Hawkins Excellence Award was presented to OIGC Director Terrance Kelly.
The Oakland Multi-Cultural, Multi-Faith Choir is putting on a free performance on the Oakland waterfront, and you should definitely go check it out.
