Songs by OD Jones and OMAM DAWN, two local folk musicians.
About Folk Music: OD Jones & OMAM DAWN
Like Richard Dawson and John Prine, OD Jones is a multi-instrumentalist. On the Welsh side of the Marches, he spent his childhood amid farm animals. He elevates those who must confront the macabre to the status of heroes.
The music of OD Jones’s first album has been described as “nightmare folk.” The gloom of OD Jones’ songs is all-encompassing, evoking comparisons to Fairport Convention’s psychedelic folk and Bobbie Gentry’s gothic country. There’s a lot of dead bodies on the road, a few executions, some thievery and adultery, and a few desperate people. The overall product has the potential to be soft or harsh, subdued or exuberant. There’s usually some kind of tale there.
MOTHER OF THE DAWN
OMAM DAWN (Amy Dawn) is a singer-songwriter in the alternative folk genre. She was raised near the ocean and now makes her home in Southwark; her songs include squawking seagulls, mesmerizing finger-picked guitar, and personal narratives of transition, boundaries, and the heart. Her melodies are reminiscent of the mid-’60s and ’70s chill music of artists like Vashti Bunyan and Sibylle Baier, and her words are drawn from from life. Amy is an independent music producer, and her next EP, Eros and the Traffic, is available for pre-order on Bandcamp.
