Newcomer singer-songwriter Jessica Carter Altman took a risky, no-holds-barred approach to her musical and personal lives, which she aptly named “No Rules” for her upcoming 2020 EP debut. If you graduate from law school and get a job at a top firm, chances are you’ll stay there for as long as your desires and prospects will allow. She felt an overwhelming surge of musical inspiration, though, and decided to drive to Nashville to meet with engineer/producer Jason Lehning, who had previously won a Grammy. Lehning has collaborated with several notable musicians, including as Randy Travis. Singer Dolly Parton A few examples would include Reba McEntire, Miranda Lambert, Erasure, and Guster.
In her own words, Jessica’s first EP was a “multi-generational covers project” that included cool, modern takes of classics by artists like Duffy (“Warwick Avenue”), Classics IV (“Spooky”), The Kinks (“Sunny Afternoon”), Betty Who (“Missing You”), and alt rockers Elliot Root (“Wicked Lies”). She is now in the studio with Lehning working on an album she describes as “edgier” than her previous efforts.
Meanwhile, on her upcoming four-track EP For You, an acoustic project featuring three beautiful and heartfelt original songs (and one remix) inspired by and dedicated to her father Robert A. Altman, a prominent D.C. lawyer and businessman, the singer finds a graceful sweet spot between raw emotional power and intimate subtlety. In May, Jessica debuted the first single “Lucky One,” then in July, she released “Cherry Blossoms,” and in August, she released the title tune “For You.” A unique remix will also be included on the whole EP, due out in September. Each song also has its own lyric video to accompany it. All three songs were written by her with Nashville musician Palmer Lee.
Due to her impressive and exquisite artistic abilities, Jessica has been invited to perform on The Talk and TODAY and has been featured in Forbes.
People Magazine just launched her new single, “Cherry Blossoms” (the magazine also named her one of its “Ones To Watch”). The New York Post has written on “Lucky One,” and it has been featured on Entertainment Tonight’s “New Music Friday.” The track has been included to the Pandora playlist “New Tunesmiths and Troubadours” and the Apple Playlists “New In Singer Songwriter” and “Breaking Singer Songwriter.”
